Our latest research video features Anne-Laure Fayard's study, Making time for social innovation: How to interweave clock-time and event-time in open social innovation to nurture idea generation and social impact. Her research reveals how organizations can strategically use time to foster collaborative innovation and achieve sustainable social impact. The study challenges the conventional view of clock-time as the basis of all temporalities, demonstrating how temporal work can be rooted in event-time. Watch the video here.

  • NHEM creates working group to discuss IA@SNS

Nova SBE Health Economics & Management Knowledge Center (NHEM) has established a multidisciplinary working group to discuss the implementation of Artificial Intelligence in the National Health Service (IA@SNS). Over the coming months, this group will ask critical questions (and suggested answers) regarding new methodologies, their development and application, and the expected benefits. The primary goal is to develop concrete and scientifically grounded recommendations to guide the implementation of AI in the NHS. Additionally, the aim is to inform all stakeholders—patients, healthcare professionals, managers, payers, and policymakers—and to clarify decision-makers on the use and management of the NHS.

The Hidden Dangers of Inconsistent Leadership: Why It’s More Harmful Than You Think

Leaders should provide direction, stability, and clarity. But what happens when a leader is inconsistent—supportive one moment and dismissive the next? Our study shows that inconsistent leadership does more than confuse employees; it fosters workplace toxicity and unethical behaviors.

Drawing from Uncertainty Reduction Theory, we reveal that employees under inconsistent leadership don’t just feel lost—they struggle to interpret their leader’s shifting behavior and construct their own sense of order. To reduce uncertainty, they take matters into their own hands, leading to unethical pro-organizational behaviors (cutting corners, misrepresenting facts) and coworker undermining (sabotaging colleagues to stay ahead). These behaviors aren’t random; they stem from an urgent need to decode conflicting signals and regain control in an unpredictable environment.

Our findings highlight a key mechanism: Masculinity Contest Cultures—workplaces that reward hyper-competitiveness, dominance, and aggressive tactics. When leadership is inconsistent, employees perceive uncertainty as a threat and resort to toxic, win-at-all-costs behaviors.

Why does this matter? Because instability at the top creates disorder everywhere. It weakens trust, fuels ethical shortcuts, and turns collaboration into competition. If organizations want to break this cycle, leadership consistency isn’t just important—it’s essential. Our research makes it clear: inconsistency breeds chaos, and chaos breeds corruption.
